A few of you may have noticed a bit of a shift-around on the front page.

Well, it's becasue there has been a huge update on the number of downlaodable savestates on the right hand side.

For those of you who arent aware of what this is all about, these savestates are of Amiga games which have been pre-loaded into the Amiga's RAM, massively reducing loading times. They are, imho, a huge improvement over the use of ADFs on PSPUAE, since there is no need for disk swapping, and they are much quicker during use.

Myself and FOL have gone to a lot of bother to pre-package these savestates for ease of use by the board members, and i hope you will find using them makes PSPUAE a more pleasurable experience. I have added over 50 new savestates, including many classics such as Lemmings, Tower Assault, Gods, and It Came From The Desert.... if you wish to request that a specific game be added, have a look on www.whdload.de - and if the game is there, it is quite likely it can be loaded into RAM.

I'll make some brief notes here to ease any of you who are new to this into it....

    - Savestates should be unpacked from their ZIP archive, and dumped in the "STATE" folder on your memory stick.

    - You should really use these savestates immediately after loading PSPUAE, and not use different ones in quick succession. Due to the size of some savestates, PSPUAE can run out of memory using them this way, and if this happens, you simply need to restart the emulator.

    - You may wish to manually select the Kickstart used by all of these savestates; Kickstart 3.0

    - Some savestates will NOT load on a first attempt, but bring up the classic amiga "red box" (Guru) screen. Dont panic, simply try loading the savestate again.

    - Those savestates which are 6 meg in size (Tower Assault, Cannon Fodder Flashback, some others) due to the large number of disks they originally used, can ionly be run on PSPUAE by removing your backdrop picture. This frees up some extra memory for PSPUAE to use.

    - A few savestates will flash to a black screen whilst loading. This is perfectly normal, and merely a result of attempting to save on memory consumption.

    - All of the newly added savestates have been tested on PSPUAE 0.61 - Please inform me if you find any at fault.

thats it, and i hope you enjoy a world of no-disk swapping and considerably faster loading times! If you'd like to see a comparrison of ADF vs RAM-Installed SaveState loading times, check out my example YouTube video here.

Hi there!

There's a couple more failed links: Pinball Fantasies and hammerfist.

I tested them all so, it should be fine, then.

I'm also getting some errors, corrupt files on some of the savestates: Lotus2,Pushover,apydia,r-type and chase hq 2. Downloaded them twice and still errors.

PS: The mega-lo-mania is fine now, thanks!

Hi Horace,

is it possible to help creating more savestates?

If this info is contained in the read me file, please ignore the post as I'll be checking this one later.

Cheers

Hi

I would also like to help with creating savestates, if at all possible for us to help you, and if you want our help.

Hungry Horace

I'll welcome the help thanks guys!

it's no straight-forward task, i'll admit. You'd need to be familiar with;

Some basic Amiga commands and scripting
WHDLoad (or any other HD installion, such as JST)
General HD use on an Amiga
LHA or any other Amiga archiver
    WinUAE
How it install (or already have) a bunch of HD games
( if you are really naughty,  and have downloaded all the CAPS images, you can install them fresh)

if you think you're up to it / still interested i'll write a guide later. It would be good to know which parts (if any) of this list either of you are unfamiliar with.

Hi Horace

Some basic Amiga commands and scripting - No problem, i've been using Amigas since early 90s
WHDLoad (or any other HD installion, such as JST) -  Use WHDLoad to install some games in the past in my 1200
General HD use on an Amiga - I've installed and partitioned my Amiga HD several times. Last one to put OS3.9 on it.
LHA or any other Amiga archiver - Got lha on my Dopus to unpack just clicking source-dest lists
WinUAE -  Got real A1200 OS3.9, WinUAE OS3.9 on winbox, trying to get E-UAE on the iMac,  and PSPUAE 0.61 on fw 2.60
How it install (or already have) a bunch of HD games  - Done a few including some originals
( if you are really naughty,  and have downloaded all the CAPS images, you can install them fresh)

I'm very impress with the progress all you guys have made, so if I can be of any help, happy to do so.

Cheers
Amiguero
