Hi everybody,

My name's Chris and in advance sorry for my bad english. First of all not being familiar with forums I hope it was the right thing to do to start a new topic when you have a question!? Perhaps my questions have already been answered before and I was too stupid to find them?! Also perhaps I'm rude or selfish by just asking what I want and not helping the community here and that is not the way to behave here!? Sorry in advance then if I made such mistakes and please correct me as I'm eager to learn. Anyway here it comes: I've discovered this site and was hooked right away as I'm a big Amiga Fan since years but you know I'm more the player, the lamer and know only basics about hardware and workbench. Have collected plenty of games and still do. Sorry if this interests nobody ;)

What follows is an awful noob story and your help would be very much appreciated but anyway I just wanted to say WOW for the PSPUAE project, WOW for all the people making it possible to play our favourite games from our youth on a portable device and THANKS for it sincerely!

The noob story (sorry for the following huge text):

I've bought a PSP more than a year ago during holidays in Hong Kong. And there begins the noob story; I've bought a PSP with no Box and I'm not sure which model it is LOL! From the pics on the net I think it's a PSP 3000 and when navigating in the menu I found out it has System Software Version 5.01 ( a lot for a noob like me  ;))

As I'm familiar with WinUAE I thought I give it a try to install PSPUAE and now it becomes noobish: I never linked my PSP to a PC until today and OK this is very easy I found out LOL I read the interesting articles here on the forum about how to install PSPUAE and seemed easy at first sight. I tried but when I start the application of PSPUAE 0.72 on my PSP the music of Lotus Esprit comes with this great animated pictures in the background. Cool design by the way and awesome choice of music! Then I press "Triangle" to get the options: "Start", "Delete" or "Information". I press "Start" and an error message comes which says: "This game cannot be started. The data is corrupted." I tried to install several time with the same effect. I did copy the adf. files and kicks to the respective folders (the same I use for WinUAE and which I think and hope rightfully own having a A500 with 1 mega, a A1200 as well as a CD32).

Noob questions:

1. Is a PSP 3000 with System Software Version 5.01 compatible with PSPUAE?

2. Can I install PSPUAE 0.72 like this on my PSP or do I have to do something before (like installing different programs enabling my PSP to read the PSPUAE application)?

3. Installing steps:
a) I download and extract the PSPUAE 0.72 file to my PC
b) I link my PSP to the PC and copy and overwrite "PSP" in my PSP Main system folder
c) I use V1.50 (tried also CFW_SLIM with same error message as result)
d) within the folder "Games" I use the folder "__SCE__PSPUAE" where I paste the kicks and adf files in the respective folders (Kicks and Disks)
That's it? Have I missed something or done something wrong?

I'm sorry to only ask for help and wasting your time but really hope you can help me out. I've tried to be as clear as possible so you know what I did and may identify my problem/mistake more easily. As you can see I'm certainly the biggest noob ever regarding PSP and PSPUAE and hope the English was somewhat understandable.

You need a custom firmware able PSP.
whats the number on the bottom, it should be next to serial (example; PS1003).

If its really a 3000 then it can get complicated. You really need to find out which version you have, as there are different hacks for different PSP versions.

EDIT:- you could also try the patapon2 demo exploit, I uploaded a HBL version. All you need is to get the demo and save and then put the HBL download in its correct place and run it.

Will try to answer as best I can, as Im in work.

Go HERE and have a read, there is also a download link to the demo (patapon2) and save (patapon2 exploit). Once you have these, then download THIS, put it in the correct places and then the patapon2 demo, once its loaded, go to continue. Load the save (exploit) and it will load another screen. Push any key, then push right trigger. it will then load the menu. Select PSPUAE and your done.

There is but as I dont have a PSP3000, im not sure how it all works in that regard, cause you may be able to use chickHEN which is even better than patapon exploit. Thats another story though, baby steps, :).

Dont be so quick to jump in, ;).

The first batch of 3000's are, the second batch are only through chickHEN.

Thanks FOL and BearClaw for your much appreciated help and support! :) I'm still trying to making it run but have no succes until now. I followed FOL instructions but the same error message comes again when trying to run PSPUAE. I have made a PM to FOL (hope I'm allowed to) and have detailed what I've done so far (not to pollute the topic with too much noob questions). I'll keep this topic up to date if I know more and if I'm allowed to will post the whole tutorial once it works. Thanks again!

Thanks BearClaw! Yes, while searching for the demo (patapon2) I stumbled upon this site. I'm beginning to learn a little about how everything works. My mistake was to focus on PSPUAE if the first step is being able to make your PSP accepting homebrew stuff (which PSPUAE is if I'm not mistaken). So, in a few days I've leraned a lot here thanks to people as yourself  :) I'm relieved that I'm not out of line asking all these noob questions and hope I'll get this thing running  ;) As soon as I progress I'll let you know more of course.

I was the same, never heard of homebrew until 2005. Had my PSP on release day and "Followed the instructions" updated and then found out about homebrew, I was gutted, :(.

One thing though, if you have to use ChickHEN, DO NOT install any official firmware over 5.03.

You got PM, Chris.....

Hi and thanks for letting me know that you informatic gods have been human too once  ;) No, seriously sometimes I think I'm too dumb for all this as people get along so well and I have to try for hours with zero result LOL Thanks for the advice and read and answered your pm. Thanks for this and seems I have to use ChickHEN. I have System Software Version 5.01 but don't know if System Softwre = Firmware? Have to read more about the term "Firmware" now to exactly know what it is as terminology is everything when talking to people who are in to this for years ;)

EDIT: Info for others trying to install PSPUAE:

HARDWARE & FIRMWARE: I have a PSP3004 with Firmware 5.01 and trying to run the application PSPUAE by using the patapon2 demo was unsuccessful. I had all "components" and did the correct procedure regarding installation (everything has been checked by FOL).

CONCLUSION: the Firmware 5.01 doesn't seem to like this way and maybe chickHEN would be a solution for this, but it seems to be a thing to be done carefully. I also need more knowledge and check the sites about this subject. Will post more if I have further results.

THANKS TO FOL AND BEARCLAW FOR THEIR AWESOME SUPPORT! YOU ROCK!
