it's been suggested that it be made easy for users of the site to find out where other gamers are based, so that non-laggy games can be arranged by people in the same part of the world!

obviously joining the (soon to be) on-site chat, and discussing the matter is the easiest way, but i was wondering what anyone else though might be a suitable way to deal with it on here might be?

if possible, we could add a user-map, to help locate others on here around the world, although you cant guarentee every member will get round to placing themselves on the map!

we could have user-groups, which band together people close enough to have a decent ping?

any suggestions / thoughts anyone?

I still think IRC is the best solution to meet ppl for online games. Ppl just have to get the idea of IRC which is as simple as: if you are online then you are on irc else if you are offline you are not on irc :)

There are several free web-irc plugins out there (like the one on ss.de so) which you could integrate in your site.

Interesting too is the fact that ping is not always the cause of lags. I can have decent games with turkish players and american players who have pings from 80ms - 140ms. The "WinUAE-Game-Killer" is often the server version. WinUAE does not like the Emulinker server. Those are the ones that show a message after game creation like "HungryHorace created a new game: Horace Boxing 0.01". Low FPS happens mostly there.

I just saw you already did that irc plugin :)

There is a forum mod which will allow users to have there countrys flag in there profile information and should appear just below there avatiar.  Could make it easy to see where we all are :)

lmao.... good choice of example game  8)

yes i had noticed some servers are just.... shocking. but still.... even on good servers, trying to play against EmuChicken in japan on IK+ is an absoulte nightmare!!

i have however also manayged to play a friend of mine in the USA at Lemmings, and have even given Mike the odd game in Oz. (Gauntlet 2 played quite well like this as i recall, on a canadian server)

i see you have noticed the "chat" icon at the top!

this links to our dedicated IRC channel on EFnet as suggested ;)

Yep, but most mods/hacks arent compatable with latest forum version, and makes a pain when an update comes along. I take a look a see if its updated, rather not manually alter site pages, chat was ok, as it was only 1 file to edit, others need 5 or 6 files editing.

I think that one was a 3 player game too! (cant remember who the third was)

The style of game helps alot too,
If your running in the wrong direction for 1/2 a second no propblem for Gauntlet!
But in that time someone could of kicked your head at IK+!!

(i really just posted to see if a had a flag!!)
It's Brutal, and Inexcusable!
