I'm a predominantly Mac based developer, though I have extensive experience programming on Windows going back 30+ years. I'm currently in the early stages of planning a major product called AMOS Studio. This will allow either Mac or Windows developers (I'm currently undecided on whether I will develop this for Mac, or for Windows, or for both) to write and compile AMOS programs from Windows/Mac. Current planned features include:
- full AMOS Professional syntax highlighting
- automatic indentation
- keyword completion
- command/function autocomplete
- inline syntax checking
- variable and procedure navigation
- folding of procedures and logical blocks
- project management
- integrated sprite/bob/icon bank management
- sample and music bank management
- AMAL editing
- support for AMOS extensions (limited to a few extensions initially)
- compilation to Amiga CLI executables
- compilation to Workbench executables
- export to genuine AMOS .AMOS source files
- reading existing .AMOS files
- reading and writing .ABK
- reading and writing .ABS
- support for sprite, icon, music, sample and data banks
- creation and modification of .ADF disks
- placing selected project files onto an ADF
This is going to be a major project that will involve a hell of a lot of work on my part. I have several questions in relation to this. Firstly, is there a need for this among the Amiga developer community. I currently write AMOS code in an emulated environment, and I'm sure most others do the same. My second question is - Mac or Windows, or both?. I haven't written a program in Visual Studio in close to a decade. I've been focusing on Mac based development with Xcode over the last decade. But, I'm capable of developing for either platform.
I should also say that given the amount of work involved in this project it will likely be a paid project. Anyway, let me know your opinions on whether this is something people want, and whether I should develop it for Windows, Mac, or both. I'll certainly take all comments into consideration.
