"Hostages" and "Cannon Fodder" (Issues running these games)
« on: February 22, 2009, 08:44:53 PM »

Hostages runs fine, but the issue is everytime I step out from behind a corner I get shot regardless of where the spotlight is. (I remember originally you are only supposed to get shot at if it sees you)  Is this an issue with the rom itself? (I'v downloaded 2 different roms both same results) Also when I die the angel guy keeps flying around and no matter what key or button I push it wont flip to the next guy in line.

Cannon Fodder is downright frustrating, I'v tried every possible setting I can think of, and I'v also tried every kickstart that I have to get it to run.  Basically it boots up into the intro and the music starts and it gets just passed the screen with the british royal legion stuff and then reboots every time.

Any ideas for either of these 2 games?

the hostages bug i think is  you need Blitter-Cycle-Exact on.

we have a version in the downloads section. I can only assume i set the config for that so this (known) bug does not occur.

Cannon Fodder, again, is in our downloads section, with a working config.
I've never tried playing it from ADF, so i cant comment on remedying your problem with that.

I'll give both of those things I try and post back in a bit.  Thanks for the direction.

I know cannon fodder runs ok from ADF's but you do need a specific config or you will encounter the problems you have encountered.

I dont think I've tried it on 0.72, wondering if its something to do with enabling turbo, although I think it's probably a slight config setting problem.

the video for 0.70 Cannon Fodder was done with ADF savestate, so I know it does run.

I still have the config for 0.70, so I'll take a look  :)

CPU

cpu = 68000
cpu speed max

Chipset

blitter cycle exact: off
immediate blits: off
collision mode: none
chipset: ocs

RAM

fastmem: 4096
chipmem: 2048
bogomem: none

Kickstart 3.0

these are the settings I used for 0.70b and it loads the adf's ok, If your using 0.72 release, then I'd use these settings, savestate the adf when your ready, then enable the turbo option and resave the config.

Good news and bad news

Thanks for the setup help Delta.

I managed to get cannon fodder running with the savestate stuff.

However Hostages I'm still running into the same issue.  I guess maybe for the time being its just not meant to be.

I cant say I've tried hostages on PSPUAE, although I am familiar with the game from my ST days! lol

intresting....I just tried hostages ADF on 0.72 and your correct, you do get shot when not caught in beam of light.

tried my adf in winuae, just to make sure it wasn't the adf and you dont get shot, when you shouldn't!

tried no turbo, cpu real, no frameskip but you still get shot, when you shouldn't lol.

I'll try it on 0.70b tommoz, see if it still happens! tis annoying  :D
