Title: Hello..
Post by: Crashedfiesta on July 06, 2007, 03:44:06 PM
I've just set up an A1200 with AMOS and, boy, is it bringing back some happy memories. :-)

I'm hoping to get back into AMOS again.  Once I wrote a game called 'Hogger' which was a hedgehog who had to cross the road (can you see what I did there? ;-) ) without getting run over.  Unfortunately over the years I managed to lose the source code  so I suspect I'll be starting from scratch.

Crashed,

Welcome to The AMOS Factory.

Your game sounds mighty clever!  I'm sorry you lost the source code, but I definitely look forward to playing it once you recode it.

When was the last time you programmed in AMOS?  What brought you back?

I think it's been close on eleven years since I did anything with AMOS.  (Coincidentally I celebrated my 11th wedding anniversary last Friday - go figure :-) )

I suppose what brought me back is that I don't have the time to learn all the nasty memory management for C and Object Orientation just gives me the creeps.  AMOS is the only language I've ever really succeeded at doing anything useful with so I suppose I see it as a stepping stone back into programming and game design.

In fact, as I'm typing this I just remembered I did a game in a day that was based on Tron.  It was a simple 2D affair in a small square on the screen and blue and yellow blobs being the 'cycles' leaving a line behind them.  It wasn't fancy but it worked and IIRC I had loads of fun doing it.

 :-D

Welcome back!

Hopefully we'll have something to report on the new sequel to Amos called Mattathias that is designed to be cross-platform capable (supporting Windows, Linux, AmigaOS 4, and others).

Originally we were planning on making the new extension format object-oriented but, with a similar project I've discovered on the Internet, we may be able to make something more flexible without the need for object-oriented programming (although we might make it an option anyway).

If you're interested in the project you can join the Mattathias Yahoo Group (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mattathias/).
