Title: Favourite Cracktro's
Post by: mahoro_san on September 24, 2008, 01:17:22 PM
hey guys!
just to kind of get to know you guys a bit better, what are your favourite cracktro's and why? im crazy about them, and i try to get hold of as many as possible to play on deliplayer or modplug.
some of my favourites are paranoimia's intro to supercars, skid row and james pond 2, codename: robocod and the intro to lemmings, **** the protection at the beginning of global gladiators...erm ..
one however i absolutely love are the intro's to clik-clak. there are two, and i only have one. i have the anthrox tune. however for the life of me i cannot find the scoopex intro on any site i look at.

so tell me all about your favourite cracktro's, the way they look or sound. :D

(included a pic of the scoopex cracktro just in case somebody knows where to find it XD)

You mean the intro's for an amiga game crack? jeeez I hate those, takes ages to work how to get into the actual game sometimes, I always savestate after them so you never have to keep entering them when you want to play the game! lol

If you pushed me at the topic, and I know Horace will kill me for my ill  loyalty.......

delta coughs out, pompey pirates, automation, Medway boys, D-Bug, Flame of Finland for their Atari ST cracked .ST images.

Some of those are stuck in my head, can't say any amiga ones have done the same so far! lol

Really pushed, I'd go for medway Boys, mainly due to the ST art work for some of my favorite games, along with some of my favorite games tunes to accompany them.

Delta buries himself in sand up to the neck and awaits the people cueing to buy tickets for his Amiga community stoning.  :o

Like Delta said most 'cracktros' were quite annoying... but there were a few that had some cool music, funky scrolling text and the odd animations etc.

I used to like the Paradox intro on Super Off Road. The music was pretty cool and it had the animation of a devil shagging an angel which was quite amusing.  ;D

I found a vid on youtube for those who cant remember... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG84cj4rago

I used to love the game too.  :)

there have only been a few that have really annoyed me. one being my favourite haha. its the clikclak anthrox intro, it doesnt seem to let me go past it until im sitting there waggling my psp in the air and pressing every button possible XD same with winuae, im sitting there banging my keyboard or controller until it decides on its own when to let me in. -_-
the MF magnetic fields thing on supercars scared the cack out of me when i was little. it still kinda does XD -totally irrelevant-

i'm in the 'hate them' category i'm afraid.

Cracktro's are mostly about one-upmanship, showing off and generally feature clicky chipmusic (there is only a selection of chipmusic i like). It's pretty much a similar problem that i have with the demoscene.

This is why i love WHDload and its usage of original-versions only. They arent tainted by such showmanship, and they do the opposite of cractros with regards to compatibilty.  There are many games which dont work on Amigas that the originals worked on, PURELY becuase of the addition of the cracktro requring the presence (or sometimes lack of) fastram or similar.

if forced to pick... i'd go for one of the one's by 'Classic' (CLS) like Wipe Out , and purely for the music. Dezecrator (http://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?view=1834&detail=interview) did some pretty good tunes that werent nearly as whiney as a lot of chiptunes can be.

I really hate the late Fairlight cracktros. Lazy, unimaginative, (often just a logo and some noise) and only concerned with their own status. boooo!

hey, no one will take it personally, dont worry about it!   just a bunch of miserable old gits here ;)

i'm sure there's plenty of others out there who like them. personally i'm just a bit of a purist! (although hacking games up for extra functions doesnt bother me!)
