fire button and virtual keyboard

Is there a way to disable the joystick fire button when in the virtual keyboard? Keeping it enabled doesn't seem that useful to me, and i don't want my game character to (for eg) jump every time i press a key on the virtual keyboard. Head over Heels, if you were wondering. Also, in the same game i tried mapping Space onto circle (for Head's doughnuts) and F5 onto triangle (for Heel's bag) but neither worked. Yet both functions worked with the virtual keyboard (albiet jumping-ly). Why would that be?

i'm bored, so i'm writing these up for the sake of it.

there's still the keyboard bug when holding a mapped button continually re-triggers thekey, rather than holding down the button for the length of time.

try walking in Bloodwych, or firing in Worms for some classic annoyabnces with this one!

Home to quit also crashes the psp.

Also the screen-grab picture is still buggered right? (squashed)

oh and that whole OSK interefering with the emualtion screen thing. (where it hits X in-game too for example)

edit - merged with the thread relating to what i mentioned above about the OSK

get enough bugs listed, along with how to recreate them and if needed  i'll do a full list of them like the requests wishlist.

right.... there;s definately something up with the Key mapping onto the Buttons on v.52

i cannot get the F-Keys to map at all. Been testing this with Cybernoid 1 / 2 and Hammerfist - and it wont work with either.. making both games very hard.

Keys mapped to regular alphanumerics seem to work fine in Workbench.

when i mapped "space" to triangle in Hammerfist, it would only work if i pressed "Up" at the same... i think this must be part of the same bug.

Should try mapping the Shift/Alt/Amiga keys.

My Pinball Dreams post which is hiding somewhere explains the problem.  3 buttons to be held down to get the flippers to work and the Down arrow key for the plunger wouldn't work either.

woulda thought pinball impossible anyway?

1) too slow, with so much scrolling, and frameskip making it hard to judge

2) the keys bug where buttons are retriggered instead of being held.... surely leading to a constantly re-triggering flipper?!

Works rather well.

Frameskip at 3 (and no sound) has the game running at a steady 60fps with the pre-game scrolling, once playing it runs at a nice 50-55 fps depending on the table.

As for the keys, the three in question need to be 'switched' on and off on the keyboard which actually leads to the flippers not doing anything at all.  I have worked out a way to get the flippers to work but it does require holding two buttons down constantly so the shoulder buttons can then do the job of operating the flippers correctly.

i have wondered about that whole 60 fps thing.... since i've noticed it crop up on games where it really shouldnt.

surely it's only required for NTSC, and a lot of us should be playing PAL versions at 50 FPS? would make it easier to reach full speed!

Depends if the emulator itself is being designed to run at 60fps which from my limited understanding seems to be the case.  As you say, maybe aiming for 50fps would be the better option.

I finally got round to testing this, and you are correct the Key remapping doesnt work. Using the Virtual Keyboard is fine, but trying to remap "SPACE" to "PSP (X)" doesnt work, in fact it doesnt work with any of the Virtual Keys.

There is also the problem, as Horace quoted, regarding it, constantly re-triggering the key (e.g. as if AutoFire was on).

Id say, this isnt very serious at the moment, as about 85% of games use a Joystick and Joystisk and Mouse mapping is working fine (Well, the Right Mouse button isnt RMB, you have to set it to Middle Mouse Button to make it the Right Mouse Button).

This has now be resolved, the X (key select) while using the keyboard is on the TO DO LIST.
