WBpattern-SpeedTest.iff - Whats it for?                       30/12/00
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~                       ~~~~~~~~
Wow!  I cant believe someone has found this little readme - its hidden
away so well!  Anyway,  the 'WBpattern-SpeedTest.iff' file is just a
blank (empty) 1024x768x24bit uncompressed ILBM image, intended as a
'real world' CPU test for UAE.  Heres how to use it! ;)
1.  Open Scalos pattern prefs (StartMenu--->Settings--->Scalos Pattern)
2.  Select the first pattern (1) in the patternlist
3.  Click the file-requstor gadget (next to the filename box)
4.  From the file-requestor, select 'WBpattern-SpeedTest.iff'
5.  Click 'Use', and start your stopwatch immediately
6.  When the background clears white, stop your stopwatch
Although this is not a highly accurate benchmark, it should give you
an idea of how fast (or slow...) UAE is running on your system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To give you an idea, here are the results from my PC:
                                [using AIAB's default.uae config-file]
    *   WinUAE 0.8.8r8                       -       18 secs
    *   WinUAE 0.8.15r1 beta2 [no JIT]       -       22 secs
    *   WinUAE 0.8.15r1 beta2 [JIT]          -        2 secs
Here we see how WinUAE 0.8.8 has faster 'raw' CPU speed than WinUAE
0.8.15r1 beta2.  Yet as soon as the JIT compilation is enabled the
time drops dramatically - comparable to a high-end Amiga!  Good, huh?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, let me know how you get on with this little 'test' - cya! ;)
